Did you know that the Pioneer Valley is the motorcycle capital of New England?
Beginning in 1901, Indian Motorcycles were manufactured in Springfield, MA by The
Hendee Manufacturing Company. Today, there is an excellent Indian Museum in
Springfield, and each year the Indian is celebrated at George Hendee Day, a rally held
at his former property - a nice country ride to Suffield, Connecticut.
During the summer months, downtown Springfield hosts the largest weekly bike night in
New England with upwards of 1,000 bikes each week and Internationally known bands.
An awesome atmosphere every week.
The area also hosts 2 bike shows each year - a smaller Harley Round-up held at the Civic
center, and the huge Springfield Motorcycle Show held each January on the Exposition
grounds. Doug Sousa outdoes himself each year to fill up two massive buildings at the
grounds with builders, vendors, shows and music.
Looking for a good deal on a bike? We have 4 Harley dealerships and numerous other
dealers and shops.
Mechanical work is never an issue. Within just a short drive from anywhere, The Valley
has some of the finest mechanics and shops in the country. Rich Pitoniak's shop in
Belchertown offers full service, from a complete ground-up custom build, to everyday
repairs and modification. Rich is also the technical editor for Ironhorse Magazine and his
bikes have appeared in many publications. The Cycle Stop is another shop I like, and
they even have a large collection of beautiful, fully restored vintage Harleys - an
amazing display. Rolands Motorworks in Northampton is a full service shop which
includes a large retail parts and apparel store, good prices and friendly folks. And the
newest shop in the area is Keith's KGB Performance Cycles. Keith is a great guy and a
certified Harley Master Mechanic. Stop by his shop and say hi - it's only tricky to find the
first time - a map is on his website
These are just a few of the many notable shops in our area - I've put in a more complete
listing below.
There are several custom paint shops doing excellent work, but we're especially proud to
have Spike's Custom Paint in Southwick - a short drive from anywhere in the Valley.
Spikes work is outstanding, and his work with gold leaf is out of this world - one of the best
in the country, right in our own back yard!
Without a doubt we have some of the most beautiful areas for riding anywhere, and if
you're into group riding, we have dozens of charity and poker runs throughout the
summer. The Toys for Tots ride alone brings out 3,000+ riders, so you know we have a few
bikes around.
